Sahir Ludhianvi was one of the iconic poets & lyricists of Urdu literature and Hindi cinema respectively in the 20th century.
Sahir wrote the songs for few of the most iconic films in Hindi cinema like Baazi, Jaal, Devdas, Naya Daur, Pyaasa, Hum Dono, Waqt, Kabhi Kabhi, et al. Some of these songs come alive during the performance.
‘Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hoon’
The play premiered at the iconic Prithvi Theatre to full houses on Sept 17th, 2023. Since then it has been performed to packed houses in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Delhi, including an invitation to perform at the prestigious National School Of Drama’s theatre festival, Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2024 edition.
Play Synopsis
The play has two tracks running concurrently. One portion of the stage depicts Sahir supposedly giving the last interview of his life in his private study. The other portion depicts a recording studio, supposedly in early 1980s, where musicians and singers are gossiping about Sahir’s life and in between singing and recording his songs.
Hoshruba
The Hoshruba Repertory endeavours to bring high literary text to stage in easy, accessible, performative styles. Founded by Danish Husain. Has premiered three plays till date at the prestigious Prithvi Theatre Festival: Ek Punjab Ye Bhi (2015), Qissa Urdu Ki Aakhri Kitab Ka (2017), & Untitled1 (2019); Chinese Coffee (2012) & Qissebaazi (2016) at NCPA & Centrestage Theatre Festival; and opened their play Guards At The Taj (2017) at Aadyam Season III.
About Danish Husain
Danish Husain is an actor, poet, storyteller, and a theatre director. He was instrumental in reviving the lost art form of Urdu storytelling, Dastangoi. Later he hived off to create a multilingual storytelling project called Qissebaazi. Husain lives in Mumbai, and runs a theatre company called The Hoshruba Repertory. Among his more acclaimed plays are Chinese Coffee, Qissa Urdu Ki Aakhri Kitaab Ka, Ek Punjab Ye Bhi, Guards At The Taj, and his latest production on Sahir Ludhianvi – Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hoon. Hoshruba & newest production is Habibnama, a theatrical presentation of the doyen of Indian theatre, Habib Tanvir & life. Besides theatre & storytelling, Husain also acts for screen. Some of his more known works are Netflix Series Tajmahal 1989, Bombay Begums, Bard Of Blood, and the feature Mee Raqsam.
